TRIP OVERVIEW:

  • Enjoy an adventure holiday as you explore Kumaons breathtaking scenery. Explore India’s outback while hiking and taking village walks; experience a unique flora kingdom native to India’s untouched land.

  • Experience abundant bird life as you are guided to view India’s celebrated Himalayas, close to the historical Corbett National Park.

  • Follow the footsteps of the legendary, man-eating tiger hunter, Jim Corbett, who was considered a god-like figure amongst many villages of Kumoan in the 1930′s.

  • Experience the joy of walking through a remote Himalayan village while learning about the self-sustained Kumaoni lifestyle in this remote and picturesque part on India.

  • Take in distant views of some of the highest peaks and streams of the region; the trail circumvents streams that pour into the Kosi River the headwater of the infamous sacred Ganges River.

  • Complimenting this classic journey is a visit to the old 19th Century forest bungalow of Kunjakharak that boast incredible views, as well as enjoying a night’s accommodations at the nationally recognized and award winning eco-lodge – Camp Forktail Creek.

    DAY BY DAY:

Day one (1) Meet & Greet (New Delhi)

Welcome to India !

  • You are met by your veteran guide at the airport in New Delhi and chauffeured to our favorite, centrally located bed & breakfast to recover from your jet-lag.
  • Enjoy a delicious dinner while having all of your questions about India’s history answered by your gracious host.
  • Enjoy a comfortable night’s rest in familiar amenities.

Day two (2) – New Delhi Camp Forktail Creek

  • You are met by your attentive guide at your bed & breakfast and carefully chauffeured to the outskirts of the Jim Corbett tiger reserve.
  • On route you will stop over to break the 7-hour drive at a quality restaurant before resuming your drive to Camp

    Forktail Creek. On arrival your guide will introduce you to your Camp Forktail Creek hosts, Minankshi & Ritish.

Day three (3) – Drive via Mohan to begin your classic journey in the Himalayas…

  • After an early breakfast, say goodbye to your hosts at Camp Forktail Creek as you are carefully chauffeured via Mohan through a densely canopied forest to the starting point of your four-day

  • As you reach the starting point of your hike; a small Kumaoni village, you will be inspired to learn from your knowledgeable guide about the lifestyle of the people in these remote regions as you marvel at the local architecture.
  • Your guide will point out several species of birds as you zigzag your way up to your first pre-set camp while your hosts, the Himalayan Outback staff warmly welcome you.

Day four (4) Hike to your pre-set camp

  • Awaken to the calls of rare birds in this pristine location, and prepare for a beautiful day’s village walks & hiking with a hot buffet breakfast served under a canvas canopy.
  • Enjoy hiking through a canopied mixed forest of horse chestnut, oak and rhododendron trees to a symphony of

    bird calls. Learn more about the local ecosystem and the history of the land from your skilled guide as you ascend toward your new pre-set camp.

  • Soak in the tranquility of another remote and beautiful location, sipping on your favorite beverage, while relaxing on your comfortable and historic Roorkhee chair. Your hosts will serve you fine north Indian Tandoori cuisine before you return to your comfortable linen furbished cot, in the privacy of your own carefully positioned tent that provides a breathtaking view. Slumber soundly in a accommodation that boasts a brilliant canopy of starlight!

Day five (5) The Kunjakharak Forest Bungalow Trail

  • Enjoy another delicious breakfast and sip of tea or coffee before embarking on your fourth days journey.

  • Soon after you begin the day’s hiking & village walks, you are greeted with views of some of India’s highest mountains. Your qualified guide will point out the various peaks in the distant panorama, which on a clear day are both breathtaking and inspiring.
  • As you resume the hike after a sumptuous lunch, specially prepared and packed by the camp chef, you will be greeted by the Himalayan Outback staff at your final, pre-set camp close to the historic Kunjakharak forest bungalow.
  • Constructed during the turn on the centaury, this forest bungalow is another forgotten piece of British history that was beautifully constructed and ideally placed in this breathtaking location.
  • Enjoy a quite evening with your knowledgeable and well travelled host in this stunning location as you are spoilt you with delicious appetizers, dinner, deserts and attentive service.

Day six (6) End the hike

  • Prepare for your final hike to the road-head escorted by your trip host and say goodbye to your new Indian family – the Himalayan Outback staff.
  • Descend towards the end of the hike you will have the opportunity to interact with local farmers and villagers and enjoy views of the higher Himalayas.
  • As you reach the road, you are greeted by your attentive driver who will carefully escort you to the Cottage at Jolicott where you will be spending the night.
  • Enjoy a relaxing evening with familiar amenities including a refreshing hot shower.
  • Enjoy a quite evening after a refreshing hot bath in this breathtaking location as your hosts pamper you with mouth-watering appetizers around a blazing bonfire.

Day seven (7) Travel back to New Delhi Overnight in B&B

  • Depart early this morning along with your host, who will be accompanying you to New Delhi.
  • You will board a comfortable train that gets you to Delhi by 1500hrs.
  • Upon arrival at New Delhi you are chauffeured to your bed & breakfast where you will be greeted by your hosts Arun & Bani.
  • Enjoy dinner with your B&B hosts.
Day eight (8) Depart

  • Enjoy breakfast with your B&B hosts and depart for the airport with your host.
