TRIP OVERVIEW

• Enjoy an inspiring 3-days learning about the habitat of the Himalayan Mahseer in a unique & carefully managed environment on the outskirts of the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve.

• Learn about the art of fly fishing for Mahseer along with your experienced guide & host Misty Dhillon.

• Discover the secrets of angling for the Himalayan Mahseer; casting techniques, setting-up your rod, learning knots, how to pick the right fly for the day, fly-tying, fish-food identification and much more…

• Take pleasure in wading in the refreshing waters of the Western Ramnaganga; enjoy appetizing picnic lunches and mouth watering, home cooked meal back at the lodge.

• End each day with a refreshing hot bucket bath followed by a delicious dinner.

  DAY BY DAY

Day one (1) Welcome to the river!

• After receiving a warm welcome by The Himalayan Outback staff upon your arrival as they accompany you down a short trail through a village to the Lodge.

• After the hustle and bustle of New Delhi, enjoy the evening connecting with yourself and your travel companions.

• After an appetizing lunch your host Misty Dhillon equipping you with all the necessarily tackle for the workshop; following a introduction followed by a fly casting workshop on the casting range.

Day two (2) A day on the river…

• Begin your day on the river early as your guide & host Misty Dhillon accompanies you down to the river continuing the previous day’s lesson. You will be learning about the basics of casting, including mending, and casting in the wind that will include double-hauling.

• After enjoying a educational and fun-filled morning on the river, enjoy a satisfying breakfast and hot tea & coffee that is brought down by the camp staff.

• Resuming the mornings casting practice; your attentive guides will look over the finer points of casting, helping you to perfect the art for the evening’s session of fly fishing for Mahseer.

• Spend the afternoon learning about Himalayan Mahseer’s feeding habits with some focus on insect life-cycles.

• Soon after tea & coffee you will be putting into practice the days instruction along with your seasoned guides; angling in a two kilometer beat in front of the lodge.

• After a refreshing hot bath, enjoy an evening around a campfire with like minded friends and fellow anglers, followed by appetizers and soup. Finish off with an early dinner under the canopy of brilliant stars in our tranquil and remote setting.

Day three (3) Morning’s angling session & depart

• Rise early; feeling energized by a harmony of bird calls and a soaking-in a comfortable down-stream breeze as
  

  What a fish...

  you sip on a hot beverage overlooking the unique setting of the outskirts of the Corbett tiger reserve and the western Ramganga valley.

• Your private cottage is complete with a teak writing table and a Havana cane chair; for, if you feel inspired to write.

• After an early breakfast you will be lead by your personal guide to the pre-historic Nagtale village from where you will begin fly fishing for Mahseer.

• Depart post lunch.

My time here at The Himalayan Outback, one month 10 days, was a fantastic experience. I have guided raft trips in 6 countries (USA, Honduras, Brazil, Argentina, Panama, & India). And Misty & his A team of guides, cooks, and everyone else do it as well as anyone. Misty is a Mahseer Master, and his passion for Mahseer is infectious as a tropical disease. By the time anyone returns home, they have full blown Mahseeridis. The food is excellent. The staff is kind and helpful (I have never felt more welcome than any other country than India). Special thanks to Shyam, Bobby, Pritam, Praladh, Surender, Gajju, David, Ganesh, Shibu, Sanju, Hoshiyar, Mr. Lakhiram, and Uttam. You guys are a great group.
