Every season, since 2004, The Himalayan Outback has been taking our more adventurous angling guests on an exciting trip in pursuit of this prehistoric looking Goonch Catfish.
Come and test your skills against the “river monster” of the Himalayan rivers – a series of fatal attacks on humans are believed to have been perpetrated, by the Goonch Catfish, in 3 villages in North India.

Brief Itinerary of your Goonch fishing trip
- DAY 1: You will be met at Delhi airport & escorted to your hotel.
- DAY 2: Accompanied by one of our staff you will drive 6 ½ hours from Delhi to our fishing camp at Bhikiasen on the Ramganga River.
- DAY 3 & 4: Two full days for Goonch fishing at Bhikiasen – a great spot for this Catfish
- DAY 5: Drive (about 3 hours) from Bhikiasen to Thrar. Fish overnight at this location
- DAY 6: After breakfast drive 2 hours to our fishing camp near Marchula - another excellent spot for the Goonch
- DAY 7 & 8: Spend two days at our lodge while fishing for this Catfish
- DAY 9: Drive to Kathgodam railway station. Take the train to Delhi, accompanied by one of our staff. On arrival in Delhi, transfer to your hotel.
- DAY 10: Check out from your hotel and transfer to Delhi airport for your flight back home.

Day 1
Arrival In India
On your arrival at New Delhi International Airport you will be met just outside the “Arrival” area by a chauffeur of Roseate House hotel. The chauffeur will have a placard with your name clearly mentioned.
You will be driven from the airport to the Roseate House hotel which is located about 3 kms (2 miles) away and will be just a short 5 minute drive.
Please note that Check In is at 2 pm – early check in may not be possible without additional payment.
Get a good night’s rest after your long flight and get ready for your Himalayan adventure.

Welcome to the Western Ramganga River
Accompanied by your Himalayan Outback escort you will drive 6 ½ hours to Bhikiasen where our Fishing Camp is located on the banks of the Western Ramganga River – this is a renowned spot for Goonch!
Accommodation: THO Fishing Camp.
Meals included: All meals are included.
Day 3-4
Bhikiasen
Enjoy 2 days of fishing with the fishing guides of The Himalayan Outback. Bait fishing is what we will be doing in order to catch a prize Goonch. Most of the fishing will be done at night.
You will also have the opportunity to fish for the beautiful and hard fighting Mahseer – known as “the tiger or freshwater”.

Tharar
After lunch we will drive to Tharar (2 hrs) , which is another spot on the Western Ramganga River that has yielded good-sized Goonch in the recent past. Overnight we will be fishing for this prehistoric looking fish, the Goonch! Accommodation: THO Camp Meals included: All meals are includedDay 6-8
Marchula
After breakfast we will drive to our fishing camp at Marchula on the Western Ramganga River. Large Goonch have been caught in this section of the Ramganga River and we will spend the last two nights ensuring that we do not miss any good spots for this legendary fish. This fishing camp is located on the Ramganga River across which is the buffer zone of the National Park. Accommodation: THO Camp Meals: All meals are includedDay 9
Marchula to Delhi
After a leisurely breakfast drive back to Delhi (6 1/2 hrs) with a Himalayan Outback representative. On arrival at Delhi, you will check into your hotel Roseate House (5 Star) located just 3 kms (2 miles) from the New Delhi International Airport

Departure from India
The concierge will arrange your transfer to New Delhi International Airport in order to catch your flight back home. Check out is at 10 am.
